So I’m a huge fan of what AlterConf is doing. Especially giving folks who might not otherwise get a chance to speak or have their stories told a chance to do so.

Future events are in Chicago, IL on August 8th and in Detroit, MI on October 17th

From the AlterConf site; a summary of their events:

AlterConf Sessions are local events that provide safe opportunities for marginalized people and those who support them in the tech and gaming industries to learn from and encourage one another. By highlighting the powerful voices and positive initiatives of local community members, we build hope and strengthen the community’s resolve to create safer, healthier spaces for everyone.

The Sessions go beyond the limited definitions and basic discussions of diversity to create a deeper, more nuanced conversation. Each Session features a wide range of speakers delivering critical analyses of tech and gaming culture and presenting their vision for what our community can be.

We invite you to join us as we work toward a more inclusive future.

So if you are interested in these topics and want to help diversify, give people a chance to speak who would otherwise be left out due to the expense of going to conventions, or other factors that keep the marginalized off center stage, please consider donating to AlterConf or if you can make it out to Chicago or Detroit, try to attend.

If you can’t spare anything, please boost this post so that AlterConf can have more support. Especially since the LA event had to be postponed 🙁
